Privacy Policy

TLDR; (Too long, didn't read;)
We won't sell your data to anyone, ever, and we don't use it for advertising. Your data is only used to run Balance Forecasting for you: to compute your forecast, keep your account working, and fix problems. We only email you about your account (registration confirmation, password reset, payments). If you link a bank account, we never see or store your bank login or your account and routing numbers — only transaction history, and only while the connection stays linked. You can delete your account and all of its data at any time from Settings, on the website or in the app.

Who We Are
Balance Forecasting is operated by Tiny Town Software ("us", "we", or "our"). This Privacy Policy applies to the Balance Forecasting website at www.balanceforecastingapp.com and to the Balance Forecasting mobile apps for Android and iOS (together, the "Service"). It explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it. Information We Collect

Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a password. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash, so we never see it. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we store what is needed to verify your sign-in codes.

Financial information you enter. The accounts, balances, income, expenses, categories, budgets and notes you enter are stored so we can compute your forecast, budgets and reports. This data is used for no other purpose.

Bank account linking (Stripe Financial Connections). If you choose to, you can link a bank or credit union account so Balance Forecasting can automatically compare your forecast against what's actually happened in your account ("Reconcile"). This is optional — the Service works fully without it — and is provided through Stripe Financial Connections, a service of Stripe, Inc., which connects to your bank on our behalf.

When you link an account, Stripe handles your bank login credentials directly; we never see, receive, or store them. We only ever request the "transactions" and "balances" data from Stripe Financial Connections. We do not request, receive, or store your bank account number, routing number, or any other information that would let anyone withdraw funds or move money — that requires a separate "payment method" permission, which Balance Forecasting never requests. The only account-level identifiers we store are Stripe's own internal, non-financial reference IDs, along with the account's name/type and institution name as reported by Stripe, so we know which of your accounts is linked.

Once linked, we periodically retrieve your recent transaction history (description, amount, date, and Stripe's internal transaction ID) so it can be matched against your forecast on the Reconcile page. This transaction data is stored only for as long as the bank connection stays linked to your account. If you unlink the connection or delete your Balance Forecasting account, all stored transaction data for that connection is permanently deleted immediately, along with the connection itself. A bank transaction never becomes a permanent part of your forecast on its own: it stays on the Reconcile screen, used only to check off or flag items already on your forecast, unless you explicitly choose to create a new forecast entry from it.

Bank statements. If you import a bank statement file (PDF, CSV or OFX), we read the transactions from it to match against your forecast. PDF statements are read using Microsoft Azure AI Document Intelligence. We do not keep the file you upload. The transactions read from it are held only until you choose which account they belong to, and are then deleted; if you don't finish the import, they expire after 15 minutes and are deleted automatically.

Receipts and camera. The mobile apps use your device's camera only when you choose to scan a receipt. The scanned image is sent to Microsoft Azure AI Document Intelligence to read the merchant, date and amount, which you can then save as a forecast item. We do not store receipt images on our servers; the app keeps a copy on your device, in the app's own storage, so you can view it later. It is removed if you uninstall the app.

Crash reports and diagnostics. If the mobile app crashes, it sends us a crash report containing the technical error details, the app version, the operating system version, and the device model. Crash reports do not include your name, email address, or any of your financial data. Our servers also record technical information when you use the Service, such as your IP address, browser or app version, the pages or features used, and the time of each request. We use this information only to keep the Service working, find and fix problems, and protect it from abuse.

Device identifier. The mobile apps generate a random identifier for your installation, used to keep you signed in and to let you manage your signed-in devices. It is not used for advertising and is not shared.

Payments. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach our servers. We store your subscription status and Stripe's reference IDs for your customer record and subscription.

Cookies. The website uses cookies only to sign you in, keep you signed in, and protect forms from forgery. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but you will not be able to sign in without them.

How We Use Your Information
We use the information above only to provide the Service to you: to compute your forecast, budgets and reports; to reconcile linked bank transactions; to process your subscription; to send you account-related emails; to respond to your support requests; and to find and fix problems and keep the Service secure. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps and websites.

Who We Share It With
We share information only with the service providers we need to run the Service, and only what each one needs to do its job:

How Long We Keep It, and How to Delete It
We keep your account and the data you enter for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account, and all of its data, at any time:

Deleting your account permanently deletes your profile, accounts, forecast items, categories and budgets, linked bank connections and their transactions, pending statement imports, signed-in devices, and referral records, and immediately cancels any active subscription. Deleted data may remain in our encrypted database backups for up to 7 days before it is gone for good. Crash reports and diagnostic logs are kept for up to 90 days. Bank transaction data is deleted as soon as you unlink the connection, as described above.

Security
All data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and access to our systems is restricted. Bank login credentials are handled entirely by Stripe Financial Connections and never pass through our servers. No method of transmission over the Internet or of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we use commercially acceptable means to protect your information.

Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your Choices
You can view and correct the information you have entered at any time in the Service, unlink bank connections from Settings, and delete your account as described above. For anything else about your data, contact us at support@balanceforecastingapp.com.

The Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services, and we advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.

Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
